¡Vámonos! Community Ministries was begun in 1997 by George and Jan Waterman to serve the people of Reynosa, Mexico. Having previously labored as missionaries with World Servants in Mexico, they discerned God’s calling to devote their energies in a different direction of ministry.
The vision soon became a reality as God miraculously provided the beautiful rural land (donated by a Mexican pastor) where the camp is situated, about 15 miles outside of the city of Reynosa. Today, Camp Piedra Angular (“Cornerstone” in Engish) has a wonderful all-purpose dining/residence hall with fully equipped kitchen and two bathrooms, two dormitories (sleeping 20 each) with two separate bathroom in each dorm to accommodate males and females. Additionally, there is an "Efficiency Dormitory", sleeping 14, with its own kitchen facilities for small groups who would like to be more "on their own". Recently added are 4 motel-style rooms with their own bathroom and sleeping for 4. We have an equipment storage building, and our own water treatment facility. The master plan also calls for a chapel for group meetings and local church services. Additions are begun as God supplies the funds. ¡Vámonos! Community Ministries operates totally by faith.
¡Vámonos! means “let’s go!” in Spanish. In Matthew 28:19 Christ commands his followers to go into all the world to share the message of his saving grace. The people of Reynosa have many needs, both material and physical, but their primary need— like people the world over— is to know that God loves them. ¡Vámonos! Community Ministries seeks to meet the needs of the whole person, and the whole community, through practical work projects and person-to-person ministry opportunities for sharing the Gospel.
We make our camp facility available to the Mexican churches in our area to hold pastors leadership meetings, training sessions, women’s retreats, banquets, and special outings. Our goal is to proclaim Christ in both word and deed. Our desire is to serve Christ, His church, and the Mexican community in which He has planted us in. The future is in His hands. Let’s go
