What's New at ˇVámonos!
December 3, 2009
It's been a while since this page was updated. We have finally finalized our ability o update the site on a regular basis, so hopefully, we will use this page to bring you up to date on all the happenings.
Although Aaron Berman passed away in October of 2007, Olga continues to live at the camp and oversee the general conditions.
One area of concern is the number of American short-term teams that have cancelled their trips to Reynosa.
This is not only at the camp. All short-term groups saw American churches cancelling trips. This has been due to fear in two areas...
Danger of violence as reported on TV and fear of the swine flu.
We would like to assure you that these things have been blown totally out of proportion. We travel around the Reynosa area on a regular basis, and have had absolutely no problems. All laarge cities, even in the U.S. the possibilityof violence is always present. In Reynosa, despite the news on TV and radio, the problems are no different than they ever were. The incidents of shootings that are reported are few and far between and most always at night
We don't even know of anyone who has had the swine flu.
So, in short, please come back! The lack of American groups coming have a huge effect on the Mexican churches that depend on our groups to help continue building and reaching their respective communities.
If God is telling you to come, don't you think He will protect you while you're here?
The good news is that many churches are returning. There was a group in town in October, and we have a few more coming back during the Christmas break and in January. We would be happy to provide you with contact people from these churches to allay any fears you might have in coming to Mexico with your church mission group.
However, we have many Mexican retreats and pastoral training seminars. Just about evey weekend is now booked withMexican church groups.
